Tintoria Emiliana was the first Italian dyeing plant to industrialize one of its vegetable extract based dyeing processes for all natural fibres. Our research endeavours have always been directed towards the quality of the product and new technologies able to achieve optimum results with increasingly lower costs and environmental impact.

Organic dyeing characterizes textile productions and makes them stand out, since they possess important qualities in relation to:

Respect for the environment:

- By using only natural fibres obtained from agriculture or organic cultivation practices, without the use of any chemical products (fertilizers, pesticides, parasiticides).

- Selection of all the chemical products used for the various industrial treatments on the basis of the natural origin of the raw materials used for their synthesis, their low aquatic toxicity and high degree of biodegradability.

- By using only natural colours of vegetable origin mainly obtained by simple physical, watery extraction methods, easily biodegradable and with no, or almost no, toxicity problems.

Respect for the consumer:

- By providing complete information about all the industrial treatments carried out and about all the materials and chemical products employed, achieved by a clear chemical identification of the molecules used (CAS numbers) plus process analyses and controls.

- The lightfastness of natural dyes and their ability to withstand washing are features that are absolutely comparable to those of many synthetic dyes. Moreover, only non-toxic metal salts of the type approved for cosmetic use are used for the mordanting phase.

- Thanks to collaboration with the centre of Dermatology and Allergology of the University of Modena, all the vegetable pigments and make-up chemicals used in the different production phases that are liable to be adsorbed by the fabric (greasing agents, finishes, softeners), are analyzed beforehand in relation to their irritating potential (primary dermal irritation and onset of allergic dermatitis).

Tintoria Emiliana’s philosophy has, for quite a time, been that of absolutely attention towards a healthy work environment and respect for the environment. This is achieved by eliminating the toxic products commonly used for treating textiles and by purifying the waste water in a biological cycle after which it can even be drained into surface waters. Creation of an “ecofriendly” industrial technology based on vegetable dyes has enabled Tintoria Emiliana to receive the ERA 2004 - Emilia Romagna Ambiente award.
